The Importance of ASE Certification for Mechanics

When visiting Integrity Auto Inc., you may have noticed our sign proudly displaying “ASE Certified Mechanics.” But what does this certification really mean, and why is it crucial for your vehicle’s safety and performance?

The truth is, anyone can claim to be a mechanic without any formal training or licensing. Unlike other professions, such as hairstyling or chiropractic care, there are no minimum standards or educational requirements for mechanics. This lack of regulation can be alarming, considering the potential risks of incompetent workmanship, including damage to your vehicle or even personal injury.

The National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), a non-profit organization, has been addressing this issue since 1972 by certifying mechanics who have demonstrated their technical expertise.

ASE certification is not just a claim; it’s a tangible proof of a mechanic’s knowledge and experience.

To become ASE certified, a mechanic must first have at least two years of experience in the automotive field.

They then must apply to take rigorous tests in specific areas, such as brakes, suspension systems, and engines. These tests, offered only twice a year, come with a fee, and applicants who fail must wait six months to retake them.

The testing process is rigorous and created by a panel of seasoned automotive experts, including manufacturers, engineers, and aftermarket parts manufacturers. Applicants must possess thorough knowledge of the subject matter, as there’s no room for guessing or faking answers.

Once certified, mechanics must retake exams every five years to maintain their professional status. By choosing an ASE-certified mechanic, you can have confidence in their abilities and ensure your vehicle receives the best possible care.

Rest assured that  our mecahnis are ASE certified and are diligent in keeping up with their ongoing education. Contact Integrity Auto today and Schedule an Appointment.
